Let me just begin by saying that I am in love with Pat Benatar. Say what you will, but she has been ROCKING the stage for some 40(ish) years and has toured EVERY year since I graduated high school in 1996. I have seen her in concert now 7 times. The one thing that floors me is that she still, after all this time and all the shows, sounds exactly like she does on the first album I ever purchased, unlike some of the others, and for a rocker, that’s quite a feat!
Friday, I got to go to her concert at Spirit Mountain Casino.
I was as excited a 15 year old girl at a Beiber concert. She NEVER disappoints. This was no exception…
Her concerts always speak to me. Every single finale/encore I worry that it will be her last on stage; while I’ve seen her so many times, it is her music that I’ve grown up with, lived with, through the good times, and some of the bad. I don’t think an artist has had a bigger impact, musically, to my entire life.
Looking great at 58 years of age, she make gets to make her own rules, as she told us in the beginning of the concert, and she believes that touring and singing her music has brought her the greatest joy in life… and it shows.
A fact I didn’t know, in all my visits with Patricia & Neil, is that they share the honor of being the second video ever played on MTV and Neil is the first guitarist to be featured. This was the song:
The concert was absolutely amazing, as usual. I was certainly not the youngest, nor the oldest, person in the audience, which strikes me, considering her career has spanned Forty-something years and has managed four consecutive Grammy wins, two Multi-Platinum albums, five Platinum albums, three Gold albums and 19 Top 40 singles.
Her amazing voice and ability to do things musically, constantly leaves me breathless and in awe. While I know someday she is going to retire and relax, I really hope I continue to get to see her when she swings through my neighborhood.
